Welcome to P.S. 107 After-school Program!
PS 107, the John W. Kimball Learning Center, is fortunate to have a rich and nurturing after-school program conveniently located right in our school and led by dedicated PS 107 teachers and staff. Our popular program provides homework help, enrichment classes and recreation. The After-school Program is a natural complement to our award-winning school and its standards-based curriculum enriched in math, science, and the visual and performing arts. The program has been designed to actively engage our students, encouraging their cognitive, social, emotional, artistic and physical development in a safe and collaborative environment.
The PS 107 After-school Program is flexible to meet the varied needs of our families. It operates from school dismissal at 3:10 until 6:10 pm, Monday - Friday following every full school day. This handbook describes the
After-school Program and contains a registration form. Students must be registered in order to attend
After-school.

Program
Children are placed in three groups by grade: a) Pre-kindergarten & Kindergarten, b) Grades 1 & 2; and c) Grades 3, 4 & 5. Your child’s classroom teacher will escort your child to his or her group. The children are greeted by their After-school leader and have a light snack. Your child will relax and enjoy indoor and outdoor activities (weather permitting). Activities include physical exercise and age-appropriate read-alouds, blocks and board games, homework help and enrichment. At 5:55 pm, all groups meet in designated area until pick-up.
Homework - For students who have homework (generally, the two older groups), quiet time is set aside for homework under the supervision of a PS 107 teacher. Homework supervision provides support by teachers to help students concentrate and get their work done on their own. This is not a one-on-one tutorial and the homework teacher is not expected to check every math problem, etc. If you have a special concern, please speak to your child’s teacher.
Enrichment– Enrichment classes are offered to students enrolled on a part-time or full-time basis. In Fall & Spring cycles, we offer classes for all age and interest levels including sports, games, languages and the arts. Past offerings have included karate, tennis, running club, Spanish, chess, Scrabble, computers, cooking, hip-hop dance, drama, piano, musical theater and yoga. Separate fees may apply. The enrichment schedule is announced at the beginning of each cycle. Children in enrichment may not be picked up until the end of the class.
Registration & Fees
Registration. Registration forms, enrichment class information and schedules, and financial scholarship applications are available on-line (www.ps107.org) and in the school office. There is a non-refundable, non-waivable registration fee of $75 per child, which covers your child for the entire school year or any portion thereof (no pro-rating). You can enroll your child for full-time, part-time or drop-in basis (see below). Please be thorough and print clearly when completing the registration form. Advance registration, including payment, is required - no exceptions. In order to register, outstanding balances must be paid in full.
Deposit. A deposit is due when you register your child. This deposit will be applied for June 2009 usage, unless your child leaves the program earlier. Your registration form and deposit amount will identify your billing rate for the year.
Billing. Invoices for After-school program use are issued each month and are due on the first day of the following month. Please pay promptly. Failure to pay may result in your child’s dismissal from the After-school Program.
Program Fees.
After-school ends exactly at 6:10 pm. Parents will be billed $3.00 per minute for every minute after 6:10 pm. Please be on time! Parents should arrange for an authorized back-up person to pick up their child in the event of lateness. Chronic late pick-up is inconsiderate to the After-school Program staff and can result in your child’s dismissal from the program. A $25 late payment fee will be applied to your account if you have a balance due when the next monthly invoice is prepared. A $20 fee will be applied for a check returned unpaid (stopped or due to insufficient funds).
Drop-in (Occasional Use). Drop-in is available at the standard rate (no discounts) for up to 5 hours of use per month. Families who register for drop-in have secured a reliable child care option that is available as needed throughout the entire school year. Please notify the school office at least 2 hours in advance of using drop-in, if possible.
Scholarships. Each year, the After-school Program offers financial assistance in the form of a limited number of financial scholarships. Qualified applicants must meet free lunch income guidelines. Contact Pat Mannino, Parent Coordinator at 718.330.9340 for more information and to obtain an application (also available at www.ps107.org).

By signing, I certify that I am a custodial parent or legal guardian of the child I am enrolling. I grant permission for my child to watch G-rated movies and children’s videos.

Furthermore, the After-school Program reserves the right to cancel this enrollment in its entirety if payment is not received in a timely manner.
I understand that no refunds or adjustments will be made for incidental absences including, but not limited to, illness, medical appointments, or family vacation. If the After-school Program finds it necessary to withdraw my child from the After-school Program, I will be responsible for payment for the days or weeks my child attended prior to the withdrawal date.
Medical. I represent that the child I am enrolling is healthy and fully able to participate in After-school Program activities. I understand that no medications will be administered by the After-school Program unless specifically authorized and in compliance with school requirements. In the case of a medical emergency, I hereby give permission to the physician selected by the After-school Program to hospitalize, secure proper treatment for, including ordering injections, anesthesia or surgery, for the child named above. The After-school Program will contact the parent/guardian as soon as possible in the event of an emergency.
Behavior. The After-school Program seeks to uphold the Community Standards established as the code of conduct at PS 107. The After-school Program staff is responsible for providing a positive experience for my child; however, if my child cannot live within the PS 107 Community Standards, or if my child’s behavior adversely affects the experiences of other children, I understand that my child may be dismissed from the After-school Program. I have discussed the policies of the After-school Program with my child, and my child understands that a consequence of his or her unacceptable behavior could be dismissal from the After-school Program. I have discussed in detail with my child my expectations and have stated that we, as parent/guardian and After-school Program staff, are in agreement with respect to the consequences for failure to uphold the PS 107 Community Standards.
I represent that the information I have provided on this Registration Form is true and accurate and further represent that I have read and understand this brochure, including this Agreement, and agree to its terms.
