Ms. Holton would like to update families on how PS 107 is responding to the Swine influenza outbreak.

1. Currently no students, staff or teachers have suspected symptoms. All students who have been absent have been contacted to confirm that they do not have symptoms related to Swine influenza.

2. PS 107 will follow the DOE policy.  DOE information on Swine influenza is attached to this message and updates will be available at schools.nyc.gov http://schools.nyc.gov

3. If a student, staff member or teacher shows symptoms of Swine influenza the school administration is to be contacted immediately. If the individual is at the school he or she will be isolated and sent home as soon as possible. The school administration will contact the ISC Health Director (Neil Somerfield is the contact for District 15). The Department of Health and Mental Health (DOHMH) is using Directors to funnel all reports.

4. Hand washing procedures at the school have been reinforced. The PTA has also purchased hand-sanatizing gel for all the classrooms.

5. In the event that Swine influenza is suspected or confirmed at a public school, it is up to the Department of Education and the Chancellor to make the decision for the school to be closed.

Please remember that only the Center for Disease (CDC) can confirm a case of swine flu. DOHMH is the agency in contact with the CDC.
